The IOC validated today in Lausanne the calendar of the Olympic Games in Tokyo (July 24th- August 9th). Karate will take his lap at the end of the competition at the Nippon Budokan from August 6th tot 8th.

The 80 Karatekas allowed to participate are divided into 8 categories: male and female Kata : -55 kg, -61 kg and + 61 kg for women ; -67 kg, -75 kg, +75 kg for men.

Japan, as the organizing country, has one qualified athlete per category. There are therefore 9 entries left to distribute. Four will be through the Olympic ranking (called "Tokyo 2020 Standing" by the WKF) which officially starts in the Berlin Premier League (September14th-16th). The final ranking will be established on April 6th, 2020.

Another 3 tickets will be awarded at the Olympic Qualification Tournament (OQT), which will be held in Paris (France) from May 8th to 10th in 2020.

The two remaining qualifying places will be awarded by the WKF through the Olympic Wild Card.
