They are 9 sports to have been affixed to the short list for Los Angeles 2028 by the organizing committee.

Motorsport (karting ?), cricket, baseball-softball, lacrosse, breakdance, kick-boxing, squash, flag football and… Karate can thus “submit a request for information” (official wording) to join the 2028 Olympics program (July 14-30).

Sambo, flying disc (Frisbee) and teqball were failed.

A new hope for Karate after the bitter disappointment of Paris 2024 ? The path is long. The 9 international federations must first present their arguments to the organizing committee this month (August 2022).

The candidates will be judged mainly on 6 distinct criteria : the guarantee of having the best athletes, having an ecological approach, defending integrity and fairness, having a local interest and an international appeal, the reduction of the cost of the events and the gender equality.

The IOC has confirmed 28 official sports on the program, saying there is still a "path" for boxing, weightlifting and modern pentathlon (unconfirmed at this time).

The final decision for the additional sports is expected to be made at the IOC Session in Mumbai (India) in May or June 2023.
