This is both good news and bad news. The good news is that the Tokyo Olympics should be sustained despite pressure from the Japanese population unwilling to host the event. The bad news is that only Japanese people will be able to attend the event, with foreign spectators being asked to stay at home.

While no official decision has yet been announced (it should be during the month of March), the Japanese press agency Kyodo News announced yesterday that the Japanese government has decided not to allow the presence of spectators from foreign countries at the Tokyo Olympics (July 23 - August 8), in order to limit the spread of Covid-19.

This decision, if confirmed, was expected given the negative development of the pandemic. Another headache is now coming : the refund of costs (including ticketing) by fans around the world.
