Women of the day

U21 world champion in 2017, Spain’s Nadia Morales (-50 kg) qualifies for her first K1 final. Winner of Bahmanyar 5-3 but also of the African champion from Morocco Sayah 5-2 in the semi-finals, the Spaniard realizes the performance of this first day of competition.

Fight of the day

Aghayev / Asgari : In this semi-final between the -75kg world champion and the legend of the category, it was Rafael Aghayev who won 3-0 and reached the final of this Karate1Dubai. In the final, it will be another epic duel with Luigi Busa facing the Azerbaijaese champion.

Disappointments of the day

Samdan Eray and Anna Chernysheva, winners of the OpenParisKarate, lost in the 1st round. Even if it’s difficult to string wins, the Turkish man and the Russian girl could hope better in this Karate 1 Dubaï. Samdan Eray lost against Shaaban (1-1) and Anna Chernysheva lost against Zakharova (1-0).

Score of the day

In -75kg, Ukraine’s Stanislav Horuna stuck a 10-1 for his 1st round to Iran’s Asiabari. A final score that puts the Ukrainian in confidence. Stopped in the quarter-final by Luigi Busa (1-0), Horuna lost 4-3 against Egypt Abdelaziz in the repechage (0-1, 3-1 with 9 seconds remaining, 3-4 with 7 seconds remaining) and will not go for the bronze.

Like Horuna, England’s Joe Kelleway gives us a 12-6 against the Pakistani Ghulam. If Karate is sometimes boring with 0-0 or 1-0, it can offer us blows with generous point fights.
