The post-Olympic era had its first stage this weekend (September 3-5) with Karate1 Cairo (Egypt). Few ahletes registered, even fewer Olympians, and many new young people who foreshadow Karate for years to come. At home, the Egyptians made the law. All the results.

Two weeks after the Olympics, it was the turn of young European karatekas to show off their vista at the European Cadet-Junior-U21 championships held in Tampere (Finland) from August 20 to 22.

Like the Seniors (7 out of 8 qualified in Tokyo), Turkey leads the way ahead of Italy and Azerbaijan with its 9 gold medals. All the results.

From his 1st interview in the wake of his gold medal won on August 5, the French Steven Da Costa has continued to plead for the presence of Karate in Paris in 2024. Reaction of Estanguet, of the French Minister of Sports, mobilization of deputies... The press seizes on the subject. The Olympic quest for Karate resumes. Is there still reason to hope ? The objective answer, and even official since this morning Saturday August 14th via the IOC, is no. But there are still a few (small) reasons to hope, which gives plenty (reasons) not to give up, nor level the guard. Back on a crazy week and analysis of the hopes.

For Wayne Otto, 9 times World champion, karate legend, the women's Olympic tournament has held many surprises. The 1st of them ? The success of Ivet Goranova in -55 kg that the English expert finds justified and reminds that the Bulgarian regularly beats Terliuga. He is also impressed by the -61 kg Serbian Olympic champion, Jovana Prekovic, saddened by the performance of the French Leila Heurtault, surprised by Garces Sequera, Berultseva or even the failure of Ozcelik. And he praises the unique qualities of the Egyptian Abdelaziz, winner in +61 kg...

They started beautifully. They ended badly. The Olympic Games were a great moment to live, especially the first day when Karate was so great. The tournament has generally shown a beautiful image of the sport, unfortunately tarnished by the KO of Sajad Ganjzadeh at the end of these Games, which raises the question of the rules and their interpretation. But, fortunately, these Tokyo Olympics are not limited to this controversy. The advent of Da Costa and Prekovic, the surprise win of Goranova, Kiyuna’s homage to her mother, Busa’s victory over Aghayev, Hamedi’s sadness, Japan kumite failure… Horrors and misfortunes of this 1st tournament Olympic Games in history, as well as all results and podiums.

He didn’t miss a fight during the Olympics. He had a blast, especially on day 1. He was impressed by Steven Da Costa, seduced by Tareg Hamedi, frustrated by the KO and the win of Ganjzadeh, irritated by some referees decisions, pleasantly surprised by Harspataki, Almasatfa and Gaysinsky. The Englishman Wayne Otto, 9 times world champion, karate legend, looks back on the Olympic Games with his expert eye, his discerning gaze. A fine and relevant analysis of fights and Karatekas. Just fascinating !
